Mr. Sunil Kumar Dubey, a 34 years old man from the rural India with graduation in Computer application. Before the COVID pandemic, he mainly did farming, but it was tough to cover his family’s needs and his father’s medical expenses. He wanted extra money and learned about a group called LAPCAL that helps farmers. He joined LAPCAL and started a small business of selling animal food called ‘Gyandhaara’ in 2022. He also began delivering food to people who have pets which helped him connect with farmers.
As his cattle feed business grew, he thought of selling more things to farmers. He started selling saplings of mango, guava, lemon, papaya, flowers and eucalyptus. He got these plants from nearby plant nurseries and delivered them to farmers, so that they could grow them in their gardens. At present, Mr Dubey has been established as a successful business owner has hired 6 unemployed boys from his village to help him deliver plants and animal food. These boys earn around INR 250 to 300 everyday.
Impact
People know and can identify his shop ‘Kalika Pashu Aahaar’ and makes a profit of INR 40 on each bag of animal food and INR 10 – 25 profit on each plant he sells. This helps him earn around 18 to 20 thousand per month after taking out his expenses. Also, he has become well known and respected in his community.
